Xcel tearing up streets in Baker to replace gas pipelines

some of you have already noticed crews digging big ditches down the middle of some streets (i noticed it on 4th Ave. on Monday); Xcel Energy has posted a handy web page explaining their pipeline replacement work and linking to a PDF map

people directly affected should have received a letter from XCel about this, which is also linked from Xcel's page above; in summary, work will take place M-F 8-3:30 from April through October on parts of W. 6th Ave., W. 4th Ave., W. 1st Ave. and W. Cedar Ave. from Kalamath St. to Broadway

parking will be disallowed at times, with 24 hours notice; there will be temporary blockage of some driveways

the contractor Q3, has a 24-hour hotline for questions at 303-996-3544 and Xcel is at 1-800-895-4999

other parts of Baker have gone through this in the recent past; Xcel replaced the pipeline on S. Bannock a few years ago, just after the street had been resurfaced; the patched street was not nearly so smooth, but perhaps that inhibited some of the cut-through traffic S. Bannock gets; they replaced not just the main pipeline, but checked the lines going to each home; in most cases they replaced the part of each home line under the street, and did not have to dig a trench all the way to the meter
