this weekend, 16th and 17th of April 2011, the annual Doors Open Denver once again opens many interesting buildings to public tours; Baker is not well represented this year — only two locations ...

Wastewater Management building

at 2000 W 3rd Ave., open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.–4 p.m.

the building itself is outside of Baker, but its sculptural bridge leads into Baker and then stops at a locked chain-link fence; you should be able to walk out onto the bridge during the event; the tour description seems to describe a previous bridge at this location: "The bridge was built in the late 1800’s along Third Avenue, which prior to the building of I-25 was a major thoroughfare in Denver. The bridge was abandoned after I-25 cut it in two but it stood until the city of Denver acquired the property."

cameras are allowed at the Wastewater building, and if you are lucky you may be able to visit the 5th floor lunchroom with a terrace that has a panoramic view of Baker; also the new buildings to the south are yards for the city's fleet of maintenance trucks; the description implies that these buildings may be part of the tour

Denver Health Medical Center's Rita Bass Trauma & EMS Education Institute

at 190 W 6th Ave., open Saturday only from 10 a.m.–2 p.m., and cameras are not allowed
