Alameda bridge reconstruction to begin 2 April

thanks to a tip from the newsletter of the Athmar Park Neighborhood Association, word is out that reconstruction of the Alameda/I-25 bridge and interchange will begin in just three weeks on 2 April 2010; some of the money is coming from federal stimulus funds
there is not much info on the official project page yet, so we'll point to some older info and we'll post updates here
- this project is one piece of the Valley Highway Project, a vastly documented reconstruction plan for I-25 from Logan to 6th Ave.
- Kevin Flynn's Inside Lane posted a detailed summary of the plans last November
- "alternative 1" in this photo-simulation shows the new interchange configuration -- the northbound on-ramp to I-25 will move from Kalamath & Maple to Alameda on the west side of I-25; if you look closely, this simulation also shows the grade-separation of Santa Fe/Kalamath and the railroad, plus a bicycle/pedestrian bridge from Bayaud over the river; there is no schedule for when these will be built
- CDOT had previously informed Baker that properties on the west side of Kalamath south of Bayaud would be condemned to route I-25 traffic around the bridge while it is rebuilt; we have no confirmation about that at this time
- a call to CDOT for more info hasn't been returned yet
