free Earth Day screenings of Food Inc. at Mayan Theatre

on Earth Day (22 April) the Mayan Theatre offers free admission to two screenings of the documentary Food, Inc. at 7 and at 9 p.m.

Food, Inc. focuses on common industrial farming practices in the U.S. and how they effect environment, health, economy and workers' rights

the free screenings are sponsored by Whole Foods Market

Baker resident James Bertini has been working to relax the restrictions Denver places on backyard chicken-keeping (YouTube link); in the course of this work he's had a lot of interaction with the city of Denver, and now Face the State reports that some in the city may have conspired to slow the petition effort and exclude James from a $2 million grant application

Denver Urban Homesteading

Denver Urban Homesteading calls itself a "Local Market and Reskilling Center"; the facility houses an indoor, year-round farmers' market open several days a week plus classes and other sustainability events from vegetable fermentation to chicken-keeping

the Denver Tour of Solar Homes this Saturday features passive solar renovations by Baker residents Suzanne Gruba & Richard Geiseler; the design is by another Baker resident, Roger Day

we've enjoyed and been inspired by past versions of this tour, which includes several other homes in central Denver as well as outlying areas -- we went self-guided, but a tour bus with lunch is also available
