a billboard company operates a large sign that looms over the site

history:

previous occupant was an auto-repair shop with a large fenced parking area at the corner

Argyll gastropub coming to Broadway, but where?

Robert Thompson (whose Punch Bowl bowling alley/bistro is under construction in the former Big Lots at 1st & Broadway) has closed his Argyll "gastropub" in Cherry Creek and according to Westword he plans to reopen Argyll "a few blocks from the Punch Bowl ... at an undisclosed address" in a "new buildout ... on a 6,000-square-foot-plus parcel"; the Denver Post (last item in article) is a little more specific — it reports the new Argyll on Broadway will be 4500 sq. ft. with a 1000-square-foot "courtyard in the back", and will be 2 blocks south of Punch Bowl

so where could that be? ...

Baker's Bardo Coffee House: Gets the modern shop all right

The Bardo provides essentially what every modern independent coffee shop should provide:

  • Awesome coffee (Kaladi), Chai (Bakhti/Third street) and tea options with sandwiches, pastries and juice/sodas to supplement
  • Reliable and fast WiFi with power outlets at every table
  • The ceiling has acoustic foam sprayed to it to keep the noise down
  • They segmented the space into a front area with small tables that's a bit more social, a middle section with more private booths, and a back area with couches that is more wide open again.

Gastravaganza of Beer & Street Food at Breckenridge Brewery

With a name like "Gastravaganza of Beautiful Beer & Splendid Street Food" how can you possibly say no?

Well, it's $65 and 21+ so that makes it a little easier, and it only lasts for 2 hours on September 18th from 7 to 9 so it's hard to really get your money's worth unless the food/beer will be amazing.

Are the beers good?

We will be pouring up delicious, high quality, Colorado craft beers from Wynkoop Brewing, Breckenridge Brewery, Ska Brewing, Odell's, Avery, Left Hand and Del Norte Brewing

Those are some good beers...

Standing room only at Mile High Vienna Stand

Lunch hour at the Mile High Vienna Stand got to be standing room only last week. I guess business is doing well...

They've now opened an additional location at 1312 21st Street which seems perfect for some post-lodo-bars hot dogs...

Moe's Barbecue

There is currently a petition going around the northeast corner of the neighborhood to get a liquor license (interestingly enough they are requesting a hotel & restaurant license AND a cabaret license - I'm not familiar enough with the details to know why that would be helpful to them). This license would be for the old auto repair building at 530 Broadway, where the business would be a Moe's Barbecue.

This used to be a car repair shop, now they serve up barbecue and live music.

Unlike their south Broadway location, this one doesn't have bowling.
