this small falcon, tentatively identified as a female merlin, snacks on a sparrow during an unseasonably warm December afternoon in an apple tree near West Archer Pl. and South Bannock

Holiday Indian Arts & Crafts Market at Four Winds, 5th & Bannock

The Talking Circle at Four Winds presents its annual Holiday Indian Arts & Crafts Market this Saturday, 11 December, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the historic church at 215 W. 5th Ave (corner of Bannock)

as in past years, this should include a wide variety of handmade goods by Native Americans from several areas in the southwest, plus a cafe serving fry bread, Indian tacos, mutton stew and other traditional foods (try fry bread wrapped around a fresh roasted chile for a taste treat!)

newly built dry stack stone wall

this artful dry stack stone wall was recently constructed on W. Ellsworth Ave. near S. Fox St.; the stones were previously the walls of a small garage that stood until a few years ago on the same property; the wood slats above are recycled cedar fence planks, with only a small amount of new material used for the supports, so the structure is made almost entirely of reused materials

Baker's Bardo Coffee House: Gets the modern shop all right

The Bardo provides essentially what every modern independent coffee shop should provide:

  • Awesome coffee (Kaladi), Chai (Bakhti/Third street) and tea options with sandwiches, pastries and juice/sodas to supplement
  • Reliable and fast WiFi with power outlets at every table
  • The ceiling has acoustic foam sprayed to it to keep the noise down
  • They segmented the space into a front area with small tables that's a bit more social, a middle section with more private booths, and a back area with couches that is more wide open again.

Yet another bookshop moved out of baker. I forget which one it was, but they had this sign in their window.

Gastravaganza of Beer & Street Food at Breckenridge Brewery

With a name like "Gastravaganza of Beautiful Beer & Splendid Street Food" how can you possibly say no?

Well, it's $65 and 21+ so that makes it a little easier, and it only lasts for 2 hours on September 18th from 7 to 9 so it's hard to really get your money's worth unless the food/beer will be amazing.

Are the beers good?

We will be pouring up delicious, high quality, Colorado craft beers from Wynkoop Brewing, Breckenridge Brewery, Ska Brewing, Odell's, Avery, Left Hand and Del Norte Brewing

Those are some good beers...

Updated landscaping at Brekenridge Brewery and Barbecue

This photo was from a while ago in the summer and the space looks much better now.

They forgot that the first step in laying down new landscaping is to kill all the weeds so the southernmost strip of streetlawn was full of bindweed. They've now fixed that with some rock, at least for a while...
